jewelry care

At DPJ, we believe that taking care of your jewelry should be as simple and rewarding as wearing it. Below is a guide to caring for each of the materials we use, ensuring that your pieces remain beautiful and last a lifetime.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when exposed to air, but here’s the good news: the more you wear it, the less it tarnishes! The natural oils in your skin help keep silver clean and shiny. If your silver does tarnish, it’s an easy fix.

Cleaning: Simply use a polishing cloth to restore its shine.

Storage: To prevent tarnishing, store your silver jewelry in an airtight bag or box when not in use.

brass

Brass is a stunning and durable metal that can develop a deep patina over time when exposed to the elements, adding character to your jewelry. If you prefer to keep your brass shiny, caring for it is easy!

Water Exposure: You can shower or swim with your brass jewelry, but pat it dry afterward to prevent watermarks.

Storage: Store your brass jewelry in a dark, dry place when not in use to minimize tarnishing.

Polishing: Use a polishing cloth or commercial cleaning products. We recommend a sunshine polishing cloth  Brasso or Wrights Copper Cream to maintain its golden shine.

DIY Brass Cleaners: For a natural solution, dip your brass jewelry in ketchup (yes, ketchup!) for less than a minute, rinse thoroughly, and dry.You can also make a paste with 2 parts flour, 1 part white vinegar, and a pinch of salt—soak the piece for 30-60 seconds, rinse, and dry.

Note: Due to skin chemistry, some people may notice green discoloration from wearing brass, particularly on fingers where there’s more movement or during activities that cause sweating or extended hand use. This reaction is completely harmless and varies from person to person based on skin’s pH. Some may experience it frequently, while others never notice it. A clear coat can be applied to the interior of rings for prevention, but over time, you'll become familiar with how your skin reacts. In most cases, the discoloration is minimal and often goes unnoticed or isn’t bothersome.

gold

Gold is prized for its beauty and lasting value. Caring for gold jewelry is straightforward, but it’s important to protect it from scratches and maintain its luster.

Cleaning: Use a gentle polishing cloth to restore its shine.

Storage: Store gold pieces separately from other jewelry to avoid scratching.

gems & pearls

At DPJ, we celebrate the individuality of each gem and pearl we use. Please note that there will be varrations in the color, shape, and size due to Mother Earth's uniqueness and the handmade process.

Pearls: Clean with a soft, damp cloth or mild soap (like baby soap) and water. Avoid hot water and harsh cleaners. Pearls are organic and need moisture; wearing them prevents them from drying out. Store pieces individually in soft pouches to prevent scratching.

Gems: To clean most stones, use warm water mixed with a few drops of mild dish soap, gently scrubbing with a soft toothbrush. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or allow them to air dry. Store pieces individually in soft pouches to prevent scratching.
